OUR CHURCH HISTORY

The Lord laid it upon Deacon Mike Bailey’s heart to begin a church. In the year of our Lord 2004, on the 14th day of the month of May– the vision began.

Several locations were considered before the decision was made to begin worship at 701 Washington St. in a building owned by Bill Johnson. A dedication and consecration service for that building was held on May 14, 2004, at 7:00pm.

The first Sunday service of Peace Missionary Baptist Church was held on May 16, 2004 and conducted by Reverend Phillip Ford.  Following the initial sermon in Peace Missionary Baptist Church, Mike Bailey joined as a member of Peace.

Peace M.B. Church began to grow. The growth was evident when members joined, organizations and ministries were established, church business meetings were implemented monthly, and officers were put into place. Within the first 90 days, the 14 members that joined were established as the charter members.

On August 7, 2004, Reverend Phillip Ford was elected as the first Pastor of Peace Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout the first year of existence, Peace M.B. Church (Peace) continued to grow and set the ministry up for success by establishing Sunday School, Weekly Bible Study, installation of the first Mother Juanita Mushatt, adding ministers to the ministry, hosting their first revival, and becoming part of the Round Island Creek Missionary Baptist Association (RICMBA).

Under the leadership of Pastor Phillip Ford and others the church family purchased the Old St. Mark Primitive Baptist Church Building located at 1214 Plainview Circle Athens, AL, which was dedicated on August 21, 2005. Pastor Ford resigned June 25, 2006.

On September 9, 2006, Reverend Abraham Moore was elected as the second pastor of Peace M.B Church. He was ordained and installed on October 22, 2006. He served until November 4, 2007. Under Pastor Moore’s leadership, Peace continued to grow, but the building received extensive fire damage and was completely torn down. Peace was rebuilt in the current location. Reverend Tim Brown gave the first message in the new building on November 25, 2007.

Over the next years, Peace M.B. Church has continued to grow spiritually and physically over the years.  Peace has been blessed to have several additional great leaders who played a huge part in the growth of Peace to this point. Pastors who have helped lead peace are Pastor J.E Turnbore, Pastor Jevon Turner, and Pastor Keevin Crutcher. Under their leadership, members, officers, and various ministries have been added.

Pastor Jimmy Bailey was elected Pastor of Peace M.B. Church on the 30th day of August in the year 2017. He was installed on October 8, 2017. During Pastor Bailey’s administration 3 musicians have been added, as well as 4 mothers (Mother Carrie Wiggins, Mother Mammie Randolph, Mother Toni Bailey, and Mother Sharon Milan), 2 deacons (Deacon Ed Randolph and Deacon Anthony Milan), and 1 new ministry. Pastor Bailey resigned from Pastoral Leadership on September 18, 2022.

On October 30, 2022, Brian Greene Jr. was elected as Senior Pastor of Peace M.B. Church. Pastor Greene was officially installed and charged on January 29, 2023. Between February and April 2023 Peace underwent a major organizational restructure and rebrand. Under the divine leadership of Pastor Brian Greene Jr., souls are being saved, reborn, and lives changed.

OUR CHURCH COVENANT

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior; and on profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge and holiness; to give it a place in our affection, prayers and service above every organization of human origin; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly, as God has prospered us, towards its expenses, for the support of a faithful and evangelical ministry among us, the relief of the poor and the spread of Gospel throughout the world. In case of difference of opinion in the church, we will strive to avoid a contentious spirit, and if we cannot unanimously agree, we will cheerfully recognize the right of the majority to govern.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to study diligently the Word of God; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintance; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be kind and just to those in our employ, and faithful in the service we promise others; endeavoring in the purity of heart and good will towards all men to exemplify and commend our holy faith.

We further engage to watch over, to pray for, to exhort and stir up each other unto every good word and work; to guard each other’s reputation, not needlessly exposing the infirmities of others; to participate in each other’s joys, and with tender sympathy bear one another’s burdens and sorrows; to cultivate Christian courtesy; to be slow to give or take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, being mindful of the rules of the Savior in the eighteenth chapter of Matthew, to secure it without delay; and through life, amid evil reports and good reports, to seek to live in the glory of God, who hath called us out of darkness into his marvelous light.

When we move from this place, we engage as soon as possible to unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
